A few quick answers.
How is AppList different from Spotlight?+
AppList focuses on applications. It gives you a dedicated app list, custom search folders, a filter for running apps, and actions to bring an app forward, reveal it in Finder or close it. It doesn’t search your documents or the web.
Can I use Command–Space?+
Yes. Open AppList’s Settings, click the Shortcut key field, and press your preferred combination. Command–Space is usually assigned to Spotlight; make that shortcut available in macOS Keyboard settings first. AppList’s default is Option–Space.
Does clicking a result open the app?+
A click selects the app. Press Enter to open it, or right-click and choose “Start this app”. For an app that is already running, AppList brings it to the front.
What happens when I close a running app?+
AppList first asks it to quit normally. If it hasn’t stopped after four seconds, AppList attempts a force quit and checks that it has exited. Force quitting can discard unsaved work. If macOS refuses the action or the app immediately restarts, AppList reports the failure.
Which Macs can run AppList?+
This download is for Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later), running macOS 13 Ventura or newer. AppList’s interface is in English. The current download does not support Intel Macs.
How do I install it?+
Download the ZIP, open it, and drag AppList into your Applications folder. Launch it once and you’ll find AppList in your menu bar. To start it automatically, add it to your macOS login items.
This direct download is not notarized by Apple yet. If macOS blocks the first launch, follow Apple’s instructions for opening a trusted app.
